Meeting metalworking and factory automation machinery needs through technology and innovation

Developing factory automation machinery utilising cutting-edge technology and innovative thinking

Solving customer challenges through metalworking and factory automation machinery

Tokunaga Manufacturing is a company based in Tondabayashi City that develops and manufactures metal processing equipment and factory automation machinery.
Its founding business was metalworking, and it prides itself on its expertise in complex metal forming techniques, exemplified by the metal fans for blowers, which involve processes such as bending, drawing, and curved surface welding. It commenced its FA machinery business in 2000, initially focusing largely on the single-item manufacture of conveyor and parts feeder components. Today, it primarily handles the design, manufacture, and installation of FA machinery for the food and cosmetics industries. It accepts orders for complete systems and also markets its own products.

Extensive metalworking expertise and product development aligned with on-site feedback

The company's strengths lie in their integrated in-house production system and their product development capabilities, which are closely aligned with the needs of their manufacturing customers. Since their founding, they have honed their press and welding techniques over many years. In addition to these skills, they now handle everything in-house, from design through machining, assembly, and installation.
Leveraging this integrated production system, they achieve high-quality, short-lead-time manufacturing of metal components requiring complex shapes and precision. This enables them to provide products tailored to customer requirements, intended use, and installation conditions.

In their FA machinery business, they have developed proprietary products such as bottle feeders and cap feeders, securing patents for these innovations.
Led by young engineers within the company, including CEO Tokunaga, they are advancing the development and refinement of products that incorporate user feedback, drawing on both on-site manufacturing insights and design expertise.

In recent years, they have advanced improvements to enhance packaging efficiency through their products. Alongside increased speed, they have introduced numerous proprietary products that accurately reflect workplace needs, such as achieving space savings through compact equipment design. Currently, they are moving forward with the development of new models for the global market and exhibiting at overseas trade shows, with plans to expand their business beyond Japan in the future.

Strengths

Solving customer challenges using technology and the ideas of young engineers

The company’s expertise lies in producing complex metal components that require high precision, supported by an integrated production system encompassing sheet-metal work, pressing, laser cutting, and welding. The pinnacle of this integrated technology is demonstrated in the runway lighting system at Kansai International Airport. This system features a patented specialized structure that automatically adjusts its height to compensate for runway settlement. Through repeated prototyping and refinement during the project, they ultimately established even higher-precision machining techniques.

Meeting Demanding Processing Requirements Through Technology and Innovation

'The BFR Series' bottle supply machine, featuring a unique integrated structure that combines accumulation and picking units, originated from a young engineer’s concept of mounting a robot onto a rotary feeder. Building on this idea, the machine achieved high alignment performance while requiring only about one-third the footprint of conventional equipment, allowing it to secure a significant share of the domestic market.
The latest model, 'the BFR-X' employs high-speed synchronization control via EtherCAT, increasing processing capacity by 50% while reducing the footprint by 20%. Moving forward, they plan to continue leveraging AI and robotics to lead the next generation of automation.
