Tanemura Woodworks possesses joinery techniques cultivated since its founding and traditional timber framing skills. Utilising these, it manufactures and installs diverse bespoke wooden products including joinery, built-in furniture, and kumiko latticework for residences, temples and shrines, and shops. Its client base is extensive, ranging from design studios, construction companies, and commercial property owners to private customers undertaking new builds or renovations. Furthermore, the company develops, manufactures, and sells its own range of wooden interior products, proposing craftsmanship that utilises traditional techniques for contemporary residential and commercial spaces.
Tanemura Woodworks employs craftsmen specialising in wooden joinery, wooden furniture, and kumiko latticework. Yoshiyuki Tanemura CEO himself is thoroughly versed in all three processes. Tanemura Woodworks, Ltd. handles everything from site surveys to proposals, production, and installation, maintaining a system that consistently delivers high quality while addressing detailed requests and particular preferences. In the workshop, the latest NC radial saws are utilised, combining the craftsmen's delicate skills with machining to ensure stable dimensional accuracy and reproducibility.
Leveraging their technical expertise and knowledge, the company offers a diverse range of products, all completed in-house, from solid wood joinery to flush-mounted joinery, furniture, built-in furniture, and kumiko latticework. We specialise in creations combining joinery, furniture, and kumiko techniques. For complex designs or situations demanding precise machining, we possess the capability and technical expertise to propose the optimal form for the space. Furthermore, to meet clients' specific requirements, we collaborate with designers both within and outside the company. We strive to create joinery that functions as interior décor, enhancing the space itself, and place particular emphasis on proposing kumiko designs tailored to the intended use and atmosphere.
Tanemura Woodworks pursues the creation of fittings that harmonise functionality with design. By proposing kumiko latticework designs tailored to the installation location, they elevate fittings to interior design elements. Their Osaka lattice doors feature distinct front and rear structures, with the lattice section crafted from kumiko. This allows the doors to function as highly ventilated lattice doors in summer and as airtight doors in winter. These fittings thus combine outstanding functionality with design excellence. This commitment to reconciling the reliable functionality of traditional techniques with design that enhances spaces is precisely why Tanemura Woodworks is trusted.
Since 2010, Tanemura Woodworks has been developing its own original range of refined wooden interior products utilising traditional techniques, including the “Irodori Shoji” sliding screens, “Hikari Box” lighting units, “imadoco” series, and “Hanagumi” series. The company actively collaborates with external designers. Examples include Miki Nakajima's ‘HACO-DANCE’, which updates the traditional Japanese staircase chest of drawers into a contemporary form, and the ‘Flower Kumiko Series’ utilising cloisonné kumiko. Its technical prowess in fusing furniture and kumiko craftsmanship with design is highly regarded.
