Manufactures complex-shaped castings on a fully bespoke basis

Although located in an urban area, environmental measures are fully implemented

A long-established foundry with 96 years of history

Suzaki Chutetsu is a long-established company founded in 1929, boasting a history spanning 96 years. President Seiji Suzaki recounts the company's history: ‘Demand for castings grew alongside Japan's pre-war heavy industrial development, and we rode that wave to grow.’ Since then, it has remained dedicated solely to manufacturing castings using iron as its raw material. Even today, it continues to produce complex-shaped castings entirely to order, primarily for robot components, pump parts, and machine tool components, using methods unchanged from the past, such as hand-making sand moulds.

Each casting is handcrafted one by one with master craftsmanship.

Suzaki Chutetsu ability to operate on a fully made-to-order basis stems from its lanes, refined through continuous improvement since the company's founding, where each high-quality casting is individually handcrafted. This enables the production of small-lot castings, unprofitable for mass-production companies, in high quality and tailored to specific requirements. Customer trust is profound.
This casting work is carried out by a young workforce with an average age of 38, including foreign workers with specific skills. Physical tasks like transporting castings are mechanised, reducing physical strain. Environmental measures, such as dust extraction systems, are fully implemented. Women also play active roles in this workplace, traditionally seen as male-dominated.
President Suzaki emphasises that ‘training our on-site staff is crucial’ for passing on craftsmanship. The company boasts many skilled employees, including five technicians who have passed the Grade 1 Technical Proficiency Test. Technical guidance for younger on-site staff is primarily provided by veteran technicians with over 40 years of field experience. Beyond one-to-one training, the company also regularly holds study sessions with external instructors, demonstrating its commitment to personnel development.

Strengths

Production management is carried out by scanning the barcode on the manufacturing instruction sheet.Production management is carried out by scanning the barcode on the manufacturing instruction sheet.

One of Suzaki Chutetsu's strengths lies in its ability to meet tight deadlines. It can deliver goods in as little as three days. Its weapon is the effective use of barcodes. By utilising its in-house system and scanning a barcode each time an ordered item is manufactured, it constantly tracks what was produced and when. This system also manages the location of wooden moulds. Consequently, it can immediately provide customers with an approximate delivery date. Another strength is that all the raw material, iron scrap, is sourced domestically.

Castings requiring numerous cores in the mould can also be manufactured.

Suzaki Chutetsu specialises in pump components, and many of the castings produced by the company feature hollow interiors. Manufacturing castings with internal cavities requires sand moulds known as cores. It is said that many foundries are reluctant to take on contracts for castings requiring numerous such cores. However, the company has manufactured numerous complex castings, including those requiring eight or more cores. This demonstrates its considerable technical capability. The fact that its marine components hold certifications from organisations such as Lloyd's Register in the UK and DNV in Norway further attests to this high technical standard.

Message from President

President
Seiji Suzaki

Since our founding in 1929, we have strived to provide a stable supply of products through advanced technical expertise and rigorous quality control, progressing alongside our customers. The environment surrounding casting is undergoing rapid change, presenting challenges such as reduced demand for castings due to decarbonisation. To respond swiftly to such changes, we are acquiring cutting-edge knowledge and will continue to meet our customers' requirements.

The foundry production site is where young employees thrive.
