Strengths lie in a track record of producing 30,000 dies and proposing process conversion

Artisans who assemble dies from ten or more metal plates

Well-regarded for the design and manufacture of shear press dies

Masuoka Die Mould MFG. specialises in the design and production of high-precision punching dies for printed circuit boards and electronic components. The company excels in crafting precision, high-durability dies such as trimming dies for EV (electric vehicle) batteries and medical film dies, and also handles the processing of composite and high-performance materials including CFRP, laminated boards, and medical gauze.
To date, the company has produced over 30,000 dies. Its portfolio ranges from compact die that fit in the palm of the hand to large die exceeding 250kg. It also boasts a proven track record in producing die for micro-perforations under 1mm and for extremely small products measuring 0.2mm × 1.2mm. A key advantage is its capability to handle the entire process, from design to manufacturing, entirely in-house.

Achieving ultra-precision dies through numerical control

Masuoka Die Mould MFG. primarily manufactures four types of dies: full-cut dies, shaving dies, push-back dies, and half-cut and full-cut dies. By combining these dies and utilising VA/VE, we propose dies and manufacturing methods tailored to our customers' objectives.
The dies handled by Masuoka Die Mould MFG. are constructed by precisely assembling ten or more metal plates. A mere 0.1mm deviation at this stage can result in an overall deviation of approximately 1mm across the entire die. One of our strengths lies in quantifying the deviation of each metal plate, sharing and managing this data across all employees. This enables us to assemble dies while identifying and correcting deviations from design values, including those caused by temperature changes, down to 0.001mm. Furthermore, we maintain traceability for each processing machine and incorporate alarm functions that detect increasing deviation levels, triggering maintenance.
For example, in dies for laminated battery cells manufactured using half-cut and full-cut dies, a 2μm deviation leads to burr formation on the film. This numerical management enables the provision of ultra-precise dies capable of over 3 million press cycles.

Strengths

Stainless steel heater wiring manufactured by die-pressing

Masuoka Die Mould MFG. has a proven track record in proposals that combine high precision with environmental consideration. SUS heater wiring is manufactured using acid etching or laser processing. While issues such as chemical wastewater drainage and waste liquid treatment exist, alongside dimensional defects caused by processing heat, these challenges were resolved comprehensively through a shift to dies press processing. Processing time is highly efficient at just one second, whilst the SUS scrap and dies generated after pressing are also recyclable. This method, realised through expertise gained in manufacturing printed circuit board dies, is highly valued by customers.

Examples of CFRP die-cutting with a beautiful finish

Masuoka Die Mould MFG. has also achieved die production capable of processing CFRP without generating minute burrs. While drilling, lasers, and water jets are employed for CFRP processing, these methods require significant machining time, making lead time reduction a key challenge. Consequently, by applying expertise gained from manufacturing printed circuit board dies, we developed a die capable of performing both contour machining and hole drilling in just one second. During punching trials, we achieved a flawless finish free from burrs and reduced costs. A further strength lies in our ability to propose new processing methods utilising die technology, even for carbon fibre materials considered difficult to machine.

Message from President

Chairman of the Board
Yasuhito Matsuoka

We regard dies as the “king of production engineering”. Guided by our principle of sincere manufacturing, we have dedicated ourselves solely to this field for over 60 years. Supported by the efforts of each and every employee, we have grown as a company committed to continuous daily improvement. Moving forward, we shall also pursue expansion into overseas markets.
